Loft Joist Insulation

It is estimated that approximately 25% of heat loss of uninsulated homes is conducted through the roof. The most common and in many circumstances the cheapest form of insulation is to lay insulating material to a minimum depth of 270mm on the floor of the loft space both between the joists and across the joists as they can act as a thermal bridge.

This should make the loft space much colder then the rest of the house as in many cases the space will be ventilated to prevent a build up of moisture which can lead to mould and rot infestations. There are government initiatives available for the loft insulation. See our Grants & initiatives page.
